Badminton

Every year, Hwa Chong Badminton competes in one of the most fiercely contested competitions in the National Schools sports scene, with over 100 schools contending for the coveted national championship. We are coached by ex-national team player Mr. Patrick Lau. Our boys train three times a week, three hours per training. In this team, good effort and attitude are highly valued; those who put in the effort are rewarded with not only better technical skills but ultimately a sense of satisfaction.

Basketball

Welcome to HCBB! Here, we train hard, play hard and work hard. We are a group of committed individuals dedicated to giving our best to win.

Basketball is not as simple as just getting the ball through the hoop. It is a game that requires teamwork and communication as we play on the trust we have built throughout each and every training session. Players are able to develop holistically and build character through training and competitions.

Together, we form a band of brothers by slogging together and having fun together. This is HCBB, it is not just a team, it is a brotherhood.

Canoeing

Hwa Chong Canoeing is more than just a sports CCA! While we still place a lot of emphasis on our training, such as in our physical fitness and technical skills, however, we are a team defined by our values. One of the values that is inculcated in us is the value of systems. As one of our teachers-in-charge Mr Quek once said, “Goals are for people who care about winning once, while systems are for people who want to win repeatedly”. We strive for excellence by applying this in everything we do.

Fencing

Fencing is a game of precision, stamina, accuracy, speed, patience, and intelligence. This game consists of three blades, Epee, Foil, and Sabre. Each blade plays by its own rules, and possesses its own unique and intrinsic style. Point-scoring is simple; simply make your blade come into contact with the opponent. However, winning is a different story, and will require the fencer to adopt his or her own mindset, and fencing style, as well as to adapt and study the opponent. Surprisingly, it has one of the lowest injury rates of any sport, contrary to popular belief. There are about 9 people per level, split among the 3 weapons. Come experience this game of fencing with us! Looking forward to seeing you!

Shooting is a mental sport where the competitor with the strongest mental strength would be victorious. The Hwa Chong Shooting Club centres around perseverance and resilience. We will never waver in the face of strong rivalry as we overcome obstacles to produce commendable results!

Members of the Hwa Chong shooting club will either be assigned to use an air rifle or air pistol which would be fired at a 10 meter range. Our training sessions are conducted in an indoor air conditioned shooting range at the College’s indoor sports hall. Training sessions usually last approximately 2 hours each, and members are required to attend at least 3 sessions a week. Our CCA consists of about 40 members, with around 10 from each batch. One can expect to train in a friendly and jovial environment.

Finally, all shooters would get to participate in at least 1 competition throughout their time in the CCA, such as the National School Games or the NUS Invitational Shoot (NUSIS).

Track and Field

Since its establishment in the early 1960s, our team has become one of the most established school sports teams in the Singapore School Sports scene. Behind these amazing results are countless hours of hard work from our athletes, with the goal of representing our school in the annual National Schools Track & Field Championships. On the final day of the competition, it is a tradition for the entire Hwa Chong to gather at the National Stadium to cheer on our sportsmen.

Volleyball

The Hwa Chong Volleyball family is one that is tightly bonded as we face hardships and share many experiences together. Through our successes and failures, we remind ourselves of the importance of hard work and the need to always strive for improvement. As a sport that heavily emphasises on the importance of teamwork and communication, we develop our team members not only in terms of physical ability, but also our adaptability and values.

Waterpolo

Commitment, resilience and determination. These words elegantly encapsulate the Waterpolo CCA. Waterpolo is a combination of many sports, such as football, basketball and handball. The aim of the game is to score more goals than the opponent. As simple as it may seem, one needs to have the physical stamina to swim up and down the field while treading water, and also have the presence of mind to execute the tactics to perfection. Dubbed the hardest sport in the world by many, it is a common sight to see us sweating it out in the pool, giving our all during training.
