“Before Hwa Chong, I was a timid and introverted person. Participating in the Secondary One Orientation and Secondary One Annual Camp (SOAC) allowed me to gain confidence. During these events, everybody was given a chance to lead the class to complete tasks. I find this very helpful because I usually hide at the back and am not willing to try anything voluntarily. Whenever I made a mistake leading my team, I was never criticised but was advised on how to do better. This made me gain confidence and I started to volunteer in more leadership roles, helping me in my transition to secondary school and I enjoy being in Hwa Chong Institution.”

“I am so grateful I came to Hwa Chong! I have learned so much from my teachers, seniors, and classmates. In my CCA, we have cool instructors who are witty yet wise as they give meaningful advice. The strong school spirit is evident not just during NSG but every day, everywhere. I enjoyed the fun events and activities lined up for us such as the Secondary One Annual Camp and the Combined Sports Meet. Despite many challenges my CCA has faced, we still embrace the Hwa Chong spirit of 自强不息 and continue to strive to achieve success. To say that I look forward to school each day is truly an understatement.”

“Over my four years, I have been able to participate in overseas immersion programmes (online due to the pandemic), allowing me to deeply understand my Chinese roots. As someone passionate in Science, SMTP has honed my research skills and deepened my love of the subject. Join Hwa Chong if you want to have an amazing secondary school experience, with kind and caring seniors that will take care of you on your journey. Join Hwa Chong if you want to become a more holistic person, and want to learn how to be able to lead by serving. See you in Hwa Chong!“

“Life in Hwa Chong Institution can be exciting and challenging at times, but I would not trade it for anything else. I've met some amazing friends here, from all walks of life. It’s nice knowing that those you study with will be there for you in your times of need. We’re willing to lend a helping hand to each other, yet constantly engage in friendly competitions allowing us to strive for the better in life. My advice? Greet the world with open arms. Step outside your comfort zone, meet new people and ask questions. Find yourself, make friends, and shape your future beyond books. It'll be a wild ride, but you'll learn, grow, and have a blast.

“In Hwa Chong, my CCA has a strong focus on our school value, 自强不息, which translates to tenacity and continuous self-improvement. We are nurtured by our supportive and professional coaches to train hard and to embody a positive attitude towards both training and competitions. During training, we forge close bonds with our peers and seniors and appreciate the learning process. During competitions, we strive to do our best, hanging our school flag up high and proud. Over time, I realised that progress is not linear, but this simply serves as a reminder that I have to continue persevering and strive to do my best..”

“Hwa Chong is not just a school, it is a family where everyone is equally valued and given the chance to excel in our own strengths. Our strong school culture, is most aptly reflected in the Hwa Chong Spirit embodied by batches of Hwa Chongians - one that is grounded in the values shared by our HC family. It is this strong spirit that builds the strong sense of camaraderie between Hwa Chongians across backgrounds and batches, creating a positive school culture that nurtures us all as people. Our fiery, energetic and comradely school culture is what makes me - and so many batches of Hwa Chongians proud of being a part of this HC family!”

“In Hwa Chong, I have learnt not to limit my future self to the confines of my beliefs and imagination. SMTP has given me a myriad of opportunities from competitions to programmes to further my interest in science. The joy of learning something new and being able to help those around me gives me more than enough reasons to look forward to school everyday.”
